Q. What types of exercises are in the program?

A. Phase One focuses on your foundation. It includes X2 Core, which works the core using instability; X2 Balance & Power, which incorporates strength and explosive movements; and more. Phase Two focuses on strength with workouts like Plyocide, combining explosive movements with mind and coordination drills; Chest, Back & Balance, the mega pump of P90X Chest & Back with the addition of unstable platforms. Phase Three focuses on performance. It includes P.A.P. Lower and P.A.P. Upper, two separate workouts using a cutting-edge training technique used by some of the fittest athletes on the planet. These are a series of repeated movements or "complexes" that will absolutely destroy you.

CalendarQ. What equipment do I need?
A. All you need to do P90X2 is a couple of dumbbells or resistance bands, a place to do pull-ups, and about an hour a day. A pro grade stability ball, two 8-lb. medicine balls, and a foam roller are strongly recommended, too.

Q. What if I want a less strenuous program?

A. If you decide you aren't ready to tackle P90X2 yet but still want to get in great shape fast, we recommend starting with a less extreme program, such as 10-Minute Trainer® or Power 90®. Beachbody® offers a wide variety of incredible fitness programs for all levels and goals, so you're sure to find the one that's right for you.

P90X2! MORE Muscle Confusion!!


Beachbody has developed a sequel to it's infamous P90X brand. The sequel named P90X2 is scheduled to be released in the November December timeframe. If you're a P90X, Insanity, or ChaLEAN Extreme grad P90X2 is for you! The truth is that no matter if you're a grad or not, anyone can expect to get stronger, more flexible, and more ripped from this program.
This workout is designed for maximum intensity and efficiency. In fact, the completely redesigned program still has a 90 day timetable but will be so intense and efficient that it will only require a 5 day a week commitment. Unlike P90X that was 6 days a week.
From this week’s webinar in with Tony Horton himself, I learned some of the specifics about the marketing, packaging, and pricing of P90X2.

P90X2 will be sold on DVD as well as Blu-Ray. Although the number of disks will be less, you will pay an additional $30 for the Blu-Ray format.

For those of you who already have medicine balls and stability balls, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to pay an extra $120 for the deluxe kit just to get the 2 extra workouts. The latest news from Beachbody is that  2 extra X2 workouts will be sold separate. The V Sculpt and Chest / Shoulders / Tris will be available separately. If you already have the equipment, you won’t need to buy the deluxe kit to get those 2 workouts!
Nutrition Guide:
There is a completely new nutrition guide that not only takes the original concepts to new levels, but there are also alternative options to optimize the nutrition for vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free diets.  There are basically 27 diet guides in 1 now!

Equipment:

It’s been made quite clear that the P90X2 workouts and exercises can be done with very little equipment. This was done not to suggest that equipment isn’t needed, rather it was done for busy travelers that felt it too cumbersome to pack up a chinup bar or weights when going out of town. You can do the entire workout with just bands and furniture if needed, but you’ll also be able to really get the most out of the workouts with some additional items like the medicine balls, stability ball, foam roller, powerstands, dumbbells, and a pullup bar.
Here is the list of equipment that is recommended to complete the program.

  6. Plyocide – P90X was about vertical jumps. X2 is about vertical (up & down) and lateral (side to side) moves.

  8. Balance & Power – A combination of balance components to strength components. An extremely unique combo.
  9. Yoga – A constant flow approach to yoga, eliminating the standing balance moves with a shortened warm-up.
  10. Ab Ripper – Fifer Scissors with a twist! Other moves from P90X 1-on-1, vol. 3, like the Abronome
  11. Total Body – Example moves like One-Armed Bicep Curl while in Warrior 3, Pull-Ups in a crunch position, and Plyo Push-Ups using a balance ball.

Free Calories-the Post-Exercise Snack!


At the end of your workout, when your body's glycogen stores are low, you have a window of opportunity of around one hour when calories will be used up to 400% more efficiently than at any other time. Food eaten during this period is so vital for recovery that it is often referred to as "free calories."
What to eat matters, however. Sugar is important—perhaps it's the only time it really should be part of your diet. Traditionally, it made up nearly, if not all, of this snack. But recent science shows us that a ratio of 4 parts carbs to 1 part protein with very little fat will provide you with the quickest recovery time, up to 26% better than sugar alone. Fat should be virtually absent here, as it slows the absorption of nutrients (a plus at any other time).
A layman's explanation of the science is this: Your body uses all its stored blood sugar during an intense workout, during which your muscles are broken down. In this depleted state, much damage can be done, so quick replenishment of blood sugar is vital. The quicker you recharge your system, the less damage you'll do and the faster you'll recover. Sugar is absorbed quicker than any other nutrient, which is why you want something high on the glycemic index. And since it's your muscle tissue that is broken down, a little protein added to the mix piggybacks the sugar to jump-start your recovery.
As you may imagine, this is vital for athletes, so you'll find that most sports companies today make a 4:1 recovery formula. Beachbody is one of these, and in my opinion, our Peak Recovery Formula™ tastes by far the best of any on the market. In lieu of this, real food can be used. Something like a small bowl of cereal with nonfat milk or soymilk and a banana will work, or fruit dipped in a little yogurt. Other creative ideas I've seen are sushi rolls (high glycemic white rice with fish) and Gatorade with a scoop of protein powder.
